Prof. Dr. Nuri Alper Şahbaz completed his medical education at Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa School of Medicine (2002 – English Medicine). Between 2003 and 2006, he participated in scientific and clinical studies at Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas Medical School, two of the best medical schools in the United States, located in Houston, Texas. During this period, he successfully passed the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) exams and earned the ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) Certificate, which allows him to practice medicine in the USA (05.08.2005).
In 2006, he returned to his country and completed his general surgery residency at Istanbul University, Istanbul School of Medicine (Çapa). With his studies and training, he obtained the “Diplôme d’Université de Chirurgie Laparoscopique” diploma in 2015 from the University of Strasbourg in the field of Laparoscopic and Minimal Invasive Surgery.
In May 2018, he successfully passed the European Endocrine Surgery Board exam held in Amsterdam and obtained the European Endocrine Surgery Qualification Certificate (Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes – European Board of Surgery Qualification Examination). He is one of five surgeons in Turkey who hold this certificate in all areas of Endocrine surgery (Thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal gland, and neuroendocrine tumors).
In December 2018, he received the title of Associate Professor and has focused on advanced surgeries in endocrine surgery, particularly the surgery of thyroid cancer and diseases, parathyroid surgery, adrenal gland surgery, as well as the follow-up and treatment of breast diseases, breast cancer, and oncoplastic breast surgery. Additionally, with over 10 years of experience in laparoscopic and minimal invasive surgeries and endoscopic procedures, he performs all kinds of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. He has successfully performed over 2000 surgical operations in these areas.
