What is Pool Method in IVF?
Pool method implies picking up two or more eggs before embryo transfer and freezing resultant embryos. According to the treatment protocol, pooled embryos are thawed and transferred to uterus.
How is it performed?
If sufficient embryos cannot be obtained for embryo transfer, freezing is performed and oocytes are retrieved again. These procedures are repeated until sufficient embryos are obtained. Embryos frozen twice or more are transferred to the uterus in time.
Who are good candidates?
Pool method can be applied in patients with poor ovarian reserve who have experienced failure in multiple In Vitro Fertilization therapies.
How much does Pool Method Increase Success of IVF?
Pool method increases the success particularly in women with poor ovarian reserve. Although a couple of embryos are obtained in the first therapy, it is possible to achieve conception with only single IVF cycle since more than one oocyte pick-up procedures are performed with this method.
On the other hand, couples under IVF therapy may feel anxious. This affects the success of treatment negatively. Opportunity to have further treatment and embryo transfer through pool method reduces anxiety and increases the success.
