Heart Surgery with Axillary Incision
“Right anterolateral mini-thoracotomy” implies replacing and repair a heart valve by making a 4- to 5-cm long incision in the armpit without need to any other incision or dividing muscles and bones. The only difference between the anterior approach and the armpit approach is the location of incision. The procedure is a standard heart surgery. For heart valve surgeries carried out through armpit approach, the chest bone is not incised and opened by 26 to 30 cm, as is the case with anterior-approach surgeries.
