Dr. Pakize Eker Balcıoğlu Provides Information About Perianal Fistula and Its Treatments. Perianal fistula disease occurs when abscesses forming around the anus begin to drain, sometimes with a doctor's help and sometimes by bursting or rupturing on their own. In fistula, the opening through which the abscess drained may sometimes heal by itself, while at other times patients may need to see a doctor again. In fact, the problems begin from this point on. To give a general rate, according to recent studies, about one third of anal abscesses, after being drained or bursting spontaneously, remain as a permanent fistula that intermittently shows itself through discharge or a bad odor. Surgery for perianal fistulas is also quite complex. After the patient comes to us, MRI scans of the perianal region are first taken to map the area. Where does this opening connect inside? Through which part of which muscle does it pass? In particular, is it related to your anal sphincter muscle? These are determined, and the type of surgery is chosen according to the findings, the shape and the number of tracts. All types of perianal fistula surgery are performed successfully at our hospital. However, the laser method, which has become popular in recent years and allows patients to return to work the next day, is the preferred option.
