Kıvanç Derya Peker

Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Derya Peker is a member of the Board of Directors at Gelişim University and continues his academic career at the Faculty of Nursing. He completed his medical education and general surgery specialization at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (Çapa). After his main specialization, he entered the top 3 in the subspecialty exam and obtained his Gastroenterology Surgery specialization from the Gastroenterology Surgery Clinic at Kartal Koşuyolu Training and Research Hospital.

During his subspecialty residency, he earned a scholarship from the Turkish Surgical Association and worked at the Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery Clinic at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, USA). After returning to Turkey, he became one of the founders of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery unit at Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital. At this hospital, recognized as a training unit by the Turkish HPB Association, Peker provided Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery training to general surgery and gastroenterology surgery residents.

Additionally, he pursued a PhD in Medical Biology at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (Çapa) focusing on stem cells, cancer biology, obesity, and the cellular characteristics of aging. He then moved to Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital to establish the Gastroenterology Surgery Clinic.

In his career, Dr. Peker has particularly focused on Pancreatic Diseases and Surgery, Gallbladder and Bile Duct Diseases Surgery, Liver Cancer Surgery, and Stomach Cancer Surgery, performing many successful operations. To date, he has performed over 400 pancreatic surgeries and stomach cancer surgeries, over 200 liver surgeries, numerous surgeries related to gallbladder and bile duct diseases, and kidney transplants. He is also interested in aging and stem cell therapies. Furthermore, he successfully performs many operations in general surgery using the Robotic da Vinci system, including advanced surgeries such as cholecystectomy and complex bile duct surgery.
