URINARY INCONTINENCE TREATMENT

Urinary incontinence is a common problem in the community that reduces quality of life and occurs predominantly in women. There are many conservative methods in the treatment of urinary incontinence. After the type of urinary incontinence is determined and the patient is evaluated, a treatment plan is shaped according to the patient's symptoms. If there is no urinary infection associated with urinary incontinence or no underlying serious pathology (such as cancer or serious neurological disease), the clinician should initiate pelvic floor muscle exercises and appropriate lifestyle changes to reduce symptoms. Bladder-bowel diaries given to patients are used to monitor urination and defecation habits, and bladder and bowel training is given to the patient on adjustments. Constipation is another important issue to be questioned in urinary incontinence. The close relationship between the bladder and the intestine should not be forgotten. Therefore, recommendations given to the patient in case of urinary incontinence include: adequate fluid intake, weight loss, avoiding bladder-irritating foods and fluids that reduce episodes of sudden urinary urgency, and having regular urination and defecation times. At the same time, the patient should be evaluated for postural stabilization, and it is necessary to regulate breathing and their diaphragms.
