About the Department
The scope, approach and highlighted services of the department.
BPH is a benign enlargement of the prostate that occurs in men with aging. It is a disease that makes urination difficult and, at times, completely blocks urination, causing the patient severe discomfort, especially pain, and impairing quality of life. Symptoms usually begin after the age of 45-50. A small portion of patients can maintain a comfortable life with certain measures alone, while the majority require treatment. Surgical treatment is applied to about half of the patients who need treatment. Among the surgical treatment options available today is Greenlight Laser treatment. As with all surgical methods, its necessity and feasibility must be carefully evaluated for each patient. The procedure can be performed under local, regional, or general anesthesia. After Greenlight Laser, the catheter is usually removed during the day and the patient is able to start urinating. It is preferred especially in patients at high surgical risk (those with heart, lung, or blood diseases, and those who must take blood thinners, etc.). No sexual dysfunction is observed. Because the thin instruments used do not damage the urinary tract, the likelihood of urethral stricture related to surgery is lower than with other closed methods.
Which Patients Are Suitable for the New-Generation Greenlight Laser Prostate Vaporization Treatment?
- Prostate vaporization with Greenlight Laser (PVP) approved by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) is a treatment option that can be applied to patients who require surgery due to BPH. It has been observed to be preferred particularly in the following patient groups:
- Patients whose surgery is risky due to conditions such as heart or vascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, or chronic lung disease,
- Patients with a tendency to bleed,
- Patients who have been dependent on a catheter and for whom surgery by other methods is risky,
- Patients who do not want another type of surgery and are afraid of surgery,
- Patients in whom other surgical methods have failed.
Plasma Kinetic TUR-Prostate and TUR-Bladder Tumor
Plasma Kinetic Energy creates a plasma ball called the "Plasma Corona" when it comes into contact with tissue. Tissue resection and vaporization are performed with the plasma ball. When the saline solution approaches its boiling point at the tip of the probe, ions form an electrical pathway between the outgoing and returning electrodes. When tissue enters the Plasma Corona ball, low resistance forms between the tips. Current passes through the tissue and the saline solution. While the tissue entering the plasma ball is vaporized, the tissue at the point touched by the ball is coagulated. Gyrus ACMI is the leading company in cystoresection. The company, which takes "treatment by seeing" as its guiding principle, offers accurate solutions related to this technology.
- Ability to recognize all instruments with "Plug and Play" technology,
- Activating all instruments connected to the device by pressing the black button on the foot pedal,
- Tissue impedance measurement at regular intervals. Audible and visual notification of this impedance information to the operator,
- PK Technology; accurate, safe, and rapid treatment of BPH and bladder tumors by resection and vaporization in saline solution
