What is Zirconium?

What is Zirconium?

Zirconium (zirconium oxide) is a white, metal-free ceramic material used in dentistry for crowns, bridges and implant-supported restorations. Thanks to its high strength and its ability to transmit light much like a natural tooth, it is preferred for both front and back teeth.

Advantages of Zirconium

  • Colour and appearance close to natural teeth

  • Being metal-free, it does not create a dark line at the gum margin

  • High tissue compatibility and a low risk of allergic reactions

  • Resistant to chewing forces

Who Is It Suitable For?

It can be used for teeth with discolouration, fractures or wear, to protect teeth with large fillings or root canal treatment, and to replace missing teeth with a bridge or an implant-supported prosthesis. Suitability is determined after an examination by the dentist and any necessary imaging.

At the Hisar Hospital Intercontinental Oral and Dental Health Department, zirconium restorations are applied with personalised treatment planning.
