Rhinoplasty: What Is It and How Is It Performed?

Prof. Dr. Yavuz Selim Yıldırım answered all of these questions.

Rhinoplasty means reshaping the nose. It can be performed using two techniques: open and closed. The closed technique is performed through the nostrils. No scar is left on the tip of the nose, and the recovery period is faster. The duration of the operation is shorter. The sensation of the nose is preserved. The open technique, on the other hand, involves making a small incision on the tip of the nose and lifting the skin of the nose. The bone and cartilage tissues inside the nose are reshaped so that the nose acquires a new aesthetic appearance. Function must not be neglected along with aesthetics. One must not move away from naturalness. Nose surgery must be performed according to the person's skin and nose structure. The nose should be specific to the individual. Noses that are too upturned and pointed can, over time, cause discomfort to the person.
