Did you know that your own blood is your most powerful ally in the fight against the aging effects of time and the environment?
We spoke with Dr. Funda Ataman, Dermatology Specialist at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, about PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), which has been increasingly used in recent years and is preferred over other methods because it has no side effects…
When damage occurs in the body, platelets in the blood gather at the affected area and secrete various growth factors to carry out repair. With PRP, an average of 4 times the concentration of platelets (platelet cells) is obtained.
The plasma obtained as a result of the platelet collection process:
It can be applied to the skin after the dermaroller procedure, which creates micro-channels in the skin that allow easier penetration into the lower layers of the skin. The aim is to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin, reduce wrinkles, and increase its elasticity and radiance.
In the treatment of wounds and surgical scars
In the treatment of cracks
It can also be used as a filler for skin wrinkles.
Application as a mask is also an option.
Hair loss treatment with PRP is showing promising results.
Because the patient’s own blood is used in PRP, there is no risk of allergy or infection. Single-use sterile kits are used for each patient. The procedure is completed in about half an hour after 20 ml of blood is drawn. Once a year, 3 applications at 2-week intervals are recommended. The renewal that the procedure creates in collagen is thought to last 6 months. In older individuals, 3 sessions each can be applied twice a year. The platelet-rich plasma obtained during the procedure is used; however, the remaining platelet-poor plasma is not discarded either and is applied as a mask or cream. The procedure, performed after topical anesthesia, causes a tolerable pain. It is not applied to those with insufficient platelet counts or to cancer patients. Although PRP has become widespread in recent years, it is not a new method. Dentists first used it 15 years ago to help implants settle more quickly. Apart from aesthetic use, the fields of orthopedics, neurology and physical therapy also benefit from PRP.
