How Are Zirconia Crowns Made?
Zirconia crown treatment is usually completed over a few sessions and consists of the following stages:
Examination and planning: The condition of the teeth and gums is assessed, X-rays are taken if necessary, and the colour and shape are decided together.
Tooth preparation: Under local anaesthesia, a thin layer equal to the thickness of the crown is removed from the teeth.
Taking impressions: Impressions of the prepared teeth are taken using the conventional method or a digital scanner.
Temporary crowns: The teeth are protected with temporary crowns until the permanent crowns are ready.
Try-in and cementation: The fit and colour of the zirconia crowns are checked, and they are then permanently placed using special adhesives.
Aftercare
Regular brushing, flossing and periodic dental check-ups are important for long-lasting zirconia crowns. It is advisable to avoid biting very hard foods and to avoid teeth clenching; if you clench your teeth at night, a protective night guard can be used.
