This procedure is performed to correct deformities, asymmetries and contour irregularities of the leg, and sometimes to achieve a muscular calf appearance. Fat injection or, more commonly, silicone implants may be used during surgery. In calf augmentation surgeries performed under general anesthesia, the implant is placed between the calf muscles and the skin through small incisions made behind the knee. After surgery, the patient should rest for a few days, keeping the legs elevated to reduce swelling. After 3 weeks, the patient regains a more natural gait. Full activities become possible after 1–2 months.
