Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia nervosa is used to describe binge-eating episodes, in which a person consumes a much larger amount of food in a much shorter time than they could eat, accompanied by a strong feeling of loss of control. It is a psychiatric condition that appears when binge-eating episodes occur in people who are excessively concerned with body shape and weight, whether normal weight or above normal weight, and when various behaviors are displayed to eliminate the calories consumed during binge-eating episodes, such as vomiting, use of diuretics, or use of medications that increase bowel movements (laxatives). When these symptoms are present, child and adolescent psychiatry becomes involved.
