Every couple who applies to our center with the wish to have a child is evaluated in detail, a diagnosis is made through appropriate tests, and the suitable treatment method is determined. These treatment methods are described below.
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)=Insemination
It is an assisted reproduction method. It is mainly applied in cases of problems related to the cervix and the mucus secreted from it, in immunological infertility, in cases with mild impairment of sperm count and motility, and in cases of unexplained infertility. For insemination to be performed, at least one of the woman's fallopian tubes must be open. The man's sperm count and motility must also be sufficient for insemination. Insemination offers no benefit in men with very low sperm count and motility. The advantages of this method are: selecting rapidly moving, normally shaped sperm, and shortening the distance the sperm must travel to reach the egg by removing them from the acidic environment of the vagina and placing them into the uterus, close to the egg. It is a painless procedure. In insemination, the woman's ovaries are stimulated with injections and tablets and monitored for ovulation. When the follicles have grown sufficiently, a trigger injection is given and the insemination is timed. The semen sample taken from the man is washed with various fluids under laboratory conditions and concentrated, increasing the sperm count and motility rates. The prepared fluid is passed through the cervix with a thin catheter and placed directly into the uterus. The sperm placed into the uterus pass through the tubes (fallopian tubes, tubae uterinae) and meet the egg released into the abdominal cavity in the fallopian tube. If fertilization occurs, the embryo travels from the fallopian tube into the uterus and implants there. The pregnancy rate per attempt with insemination is approximately 10-15%. The chance of success decreases after the first 3 attempts. In cases where pregnancy cannot be achieved after 2-3 attempts, a switch to IVF should be considered.
Test Tube Baby (IVF) and Microinjection (ICSI)
IVF (Test Tube Baby) is one of the treatment methods that has been used for more than 30 years. The first healthy birth with IVF took place in 1978. The term IVF, or in other words ‘Test Tube Baby’, refers to the fertilization of an egg by a sperm brought together in a laboratory setting. IVF is an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of the words ‘In Vitro Fertilization’, meaning ‘fertilization in an external environment/in a tube’. In test tube baby and microinjection methods, the fertilization process that normally takes place inside the woman's body is carried out in a laboratory environment. The embryos formed by combining the woman's egg cells, taken outside the body, with the man's sperm cells under laboratory conditions are placed into the woman's uterus. The only difference between test tube baby and microinjection is the method of fertilization. In the test tube baby method, eggs and sperm are placed together and fertilization is expected to occur on its own, whereas in the microinjection method, a single sperm is injected under a microscope into each egg.
