What Is Rhinoplasty? How Is It Performed?

Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases · 1:06

What Is Rhinoplasty? How Is It Performed? Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yavuz Selim Yıldırım answered all these questions. Rhinoplasty means reshaping the nose. It can be done using two methods: the open and the closed technique. The closed technique is performed through the nostrils. It leaves no scar on the tip of the nose and recovery is faster. The operation is shorter, and the sensation of the nose is preserved. In the open technique, a small incision is made at the tip of the nose and the nasal skin is lifted. The bone and cartilage tissues inside the nose are reshaped, giving the nose its new aesthetic appearance. Function must not be neglected alongside aesthetics, and one should not move away from a natural look. Nose surgery should be performed according to the person's skin and nasal structure; the nose should be unique to the individual. Overly upturned and pointed noses may bother the person over time.
