Seafarer Health Report | Authorised Seafarer Medical Examination

About the Seafarer Health Report

A seafarer health report is an official medical document showing that personnel who will work at sea are physically and mentally able to carry out their profession safely. People who work, or plan to work, in the maritime sector must meet certain health criteria.

Before the report is issued, the candidate's general health is assessed in detail. This process may include examinations by specialist physicians, laboratory tests and imaging methods where necessary. Based on these assessments, the person's fitness to work at sea is determined, and a seafarer health report is issued for candidates found fit.

Anyone who wants to start a maritime career with confidence or renew an existing report can apply to authorised healthcare institutions for a comprehensive health assessment. This process aims both to protect the health of workers and to improve safety at sea.

How Do I Get a Seafarer Health Report?

The Seafarer Health Report is a medical report issued in accordance with the Seafarers' Health Directive dated 16 July 2026, showing a seafarer's or seafarer candidate's fitness to work at sea based on the examinations and tests performed. For those over 18, it is valid for 2 years. Seafarers must undergo a periodic health check once every 2 years in accordance with the provisions of the “Seafarers' Health Directive”. Health checks for first-time seafarers, as well as those repeated every 2 years, are carried out by public and private healthcare institutions authorised under the Seafarers' Health Directive issued by the Ministry of Health.
