Modern but Infertile Men…

Today, 15–20 out of every 100 couples cannot conceive naturally, and 50% of the problem lies with the woman while the other 50% lies with the man. When the results of semen analyses performed 50 years ago are compared with today's results, decreases in sperm count and motility have been identified. Furthermore, when sperm functions are considered in addition to sperm count and motility, male-related problems have been found to reach as high as 60%. In light of this information and these observations, we can say that infertility is steadily increasing in the male population. It is not always possible to determine the exact cause of the increase in male infertility; however, it is possible to say that conditions that damage the genetic structure of sperm contribute to the rise in male infertility. Changes in lifestyle and environmental pollution are among the leading causes of problems that damage the genetic structure of sperm.

To elaborate on these:

People working in stressful environments,

People experiencing sleeplessness and fatigue problems,

Smokers and alcohol users,

People exposed to harmful gases such as exhaust fumes,

Thinning of the ozone layer,

Hormone and pesticide residues in food,

Radiation,

Electromagnetic fields,

Those working in industries where exposure to chemical solvents, adhesives and similar substances is more frequent, such as painting, decoration, construction work and printing,

Those wearing briefs and tight jeans,

Changes in diet (those who prefer fast food; those with diets poor in vegetables and fruit)…

In men who are continuously exposed to these factors, sperm production quality deteriorates and damage occurs to the genetic structure of the sperm. For this reason, couples who want to have children should avoid these factors as far as modern living conditions allow; couples who have not been able to conceive despite a certain period of time should, without delay, consult a center with expertise in infertility and well-equipped technological facilities.
